You are playing your favorite game on your laptop or desktop. You have reached a critical moment in the game and suddenly your laptop screen or monitor screen turns Pink.
You believe that the pink screen happens without any reason but it actually isn’t the case.
The pink screen you’re seeing can occur due to a number of reasons like faulty monitor cables, un-updated drivers, or any other driver updates. Sometimes it can even happen if you hit your laptop or monitor really hard or bump it against a hard surface. It can also occur due to a software issue.
I don’t need to tell you how infuriating the pink screen can be. You cannot use your laptop or desktop for playing games, watching videos, surfing the web, or anything else.
You can fix this dreaded pink screen by following certain methods that I will share in this article but before you do that you need to understand why this pink screen occurs.

What Is a Pink Screen on a Laptop or Computer Display
The Pink screen is a discoloration problem of the display in which pink patches or pink streaks can be seen. Sometimes, the entire screen becomes pink.
This pink screen can happen to both laptop displays and PC monitor displays. Pink screen problems can occur in both glossy and matte displays.
The color scheme used by our computer displays to display all the colors on the screen is Red, Green, and Blue or better known as RGB. This RGB color scheme can be used to generate any color by varying their proportions.
The proportions of Red, Blue and Green for a Pink Screen in the RGB and HSV color scheme are as follows:
(A) Red is at a Maximum level.
(B) Green is just less than the Middle level.
(C) Blue is slightly less than the Maximum level.
The HSV or Hue, Saturation and Value color scheme for Pink is as follows:
(a) Hue is slightly less than the Maximum level.
(b) Saturation is slightly more than the Middle level.
(c) Value is at a maximum level.
The Pink screen on a laptop or monitor screen can be of different types.
1st Type – Your entire screen turns Pink.
2nd Type – Pink spots or patches appear in some parts of the screen.
3rd Type – Pink lines running across the screen vertically.
Why Is a Pink Screen There On Your Laptop Screen or Computer Screen?
The problem of pink screen on your laptop or PC monitor display falls under two main groups:
Hardware problem and Software problem.
You can easily find out if your laptop display has a hardware or software problem by following the steps I shared below.
Step 1 – Connect your laptop to an external Monitor using an HDMI cable.
Step 2 – Turn On your laptop.
Now, if you see a pink screen on the external Monitor display then it means that your laptop has a Software problem.
If you don’t see a pink screen on the external Monitor display then your laptop has a Hardware problem and there is some defect in your laptop display.
How To Fix Pink Screen Problem On Laptop and Computer
You can fix the pink screen problem on your laptop or computer monitor screen using the following methods.
Restarting the Laptop or Desktop
Sometimes if your laptop or desktop has been running for a long period of time without any rest then the pink screen can occur due to the high load on the computer display. It can also occur if you run a buggy program or application.
In this case, just shutting down your laptop and turning it back on or simply restarting the laptop can fix this problem.
If this doesn’t work then you should move on to the next fix.
Reinstalling the Operating System
If your laptop or monitor screen has a pink screen due to a Software problem then simply reinstalling the Operating system can fix the problem.
You can determine if your screen has a software problem by connecting the laptop to an external monitor and then turning your laptop on. If the external monitor display turns pink then your laptop has a software problem.
Before reinstalling the Windows or Mac Operating System you need to back up your data in a partitioned drive such as D: Drive or E: Drive.
If this doesn’t fix the problem then there is a hardware defect. You can try the other fixes mentioned below.
Replacing Monitor Cable, Screen Wires or Changing the Entire Display
If your laptop has a pink screen due to a hardware problem then changing the connector cables of the monitor or changing the display can fix this problem.
You can determine if your screen has a hardware problem by connecting the laptop to an external monitor and then turning your laptop on. If the external monitor display doesn’t turn pink then your laptop has a software problem.
If the connector cable of the monitor is damaged then changing the connector cable can fix the pink screen problem in monitors. Also, your monitor cables may get tangled with other wires which can cause this problem. In this case, you need to untangle the wires to fix the problem.
The pink screen problem can also occur if the wires behind the screen frame of your laptop or monitor display are damaged or faulty. In this case, you need to take your laptop or monitor to an expert who will replace the wires.
If this doesn’t work then you have to change the entire display of the monitor or laptop. It is better to take your laptop or monitor to an expert. You can send them to a trusted repair shop or just call the customer care for a replacement.
Updating Display Drivers
This fix is if your laptop or monitor display is showing a pink screen due to a Hardware problem. You can check if your laptop or desktop has a hardware problem using the method shared earlier.
Updating the drivers of Integrated Intel Graphics card and Dedicated NVIDIA or AMD Graphics card can solve the problem.
Here are the steps to update your display drivers.
Step 1 – Type in Device Manager in the search box near the Windows start button and then click on the Device Manager option.
Step 2 – Navigate to Display adapters and click on the small arrow to expand it.
Step 3 – Right Click on the Display adapters and select Update driver.
Step 4 – A new dialog box will open which gives you two options to search for driver software. Select the first option that is Search automatically for drivers.
Windows will now search for new drivers and update them automatically. You just have to wait until the process is finished. After the drivers have been updated just Restart your laptop or desktop and all the changes will be applied.
If Windows is unable to find the display adapter drivers for you then you have to manually download and install your drivers.
If your computer only has an Intel graphics card and no other then go to Intel’s website and search for Download drivers or Update drivers for your specific Intel graphics card model. You can find the model name inside Display adapters in Device Manager.
If your computer has a dedicated graphics card like NVIDIA or AMD then you have to download drivers for both Intel graphics and NVIDIA or AMD graphics card.
Go to the respective manufacturer’s website and search for Download drivers or Update drivers for your specific graphics card model. You can find your graphics card model name inside Display adapters in Device Manager.
If new drivers have been released then download the display drivers and install them. After that Restart your laptop or desktop to save the changes.
Rolling Back Previous Version of Display Drivers
Sometimes the pink screen can occur after you’ve downloaded a new driver for your display adapters. In this case, you need to roll back the previous version of your display drivers to remove this pink screen problem.
Go to the respective manufacturer’s website and download the previous version of the display driver be it Intel, NVIDIA or AMD. After downloading, install the drivers and then restart your computer after the installation is finished.
Disabling True Color Software
Some laptops and desktops have a True Color software that increases the color contrast ratio of your laptop or monitor screen and leads to pink screen problems.
Disabling this True Color software will change the color contrast ratio back to normal and will fix the pink screen problem.

If it happens again then I recommend you to take your laptop to your authorized dealer or someone who is an expert in fixing laptops.
Sometimes the display driver get’s corrupted. Best to uninstall the graphic driver and reboot and install the most recent driver or run Windows update and let it install the driver. If none of this solves the problem you may have a bad screen or a failing GPU.
