The CarmodeStub App is an Android application developed by Samsung Electronics which uses MirrorLink technology. This is a built-in app so naturally, people are concerned about its applications.
This article answers all your concerns about the CarmodeStub app like what does this app do, is it safe and can you remove this app from your device.
What is CarmodeStub App and What does it do?
CarmodeStub App is a default system application found in Samsung Android devices that uses MirrorLink technology to mirror your smartphone’s screen to your car’s screen and enables you to navigate to a destination via Google Maps, accept and reject phone calls, listen to and pause music right from your car screen without touching your phone.
CarmodeStub App is a type of Stub application. Stub applications are apps that simulate the behavior of software components and they are used by other major applications to access information.
The Android Package(APK) file of the CarmodeStub app is com.samsung.android.drivelink.stub.
It is clear from the APK file that the Carmodestub app is a stub application used by the main Samsung car app called the Drive Link app. Drive Link is a Samsung in-car application that allows drivers to use their smartphones for navigation, messaging, calling, and listening to music right from their car screen.
What is MirrorLink?
MirrorLink is a car-smartphone connectivity technology that allows users to connect their MirrorLink-enabled smartphones to their MirrorLink-enabled vehicles without using any cables.
You can access navigation via Maps, music, hands-free calling, and phone apps right from your car screen. The apps will run on your smartphone but you can see them on your car’s display screen and hear the audio through the car’s speakers.
The MirrorLink app is similar to other car connected apps like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
MirrorLink has a beautiful User Interface(UI) that’s very easy to use. The screen displays apps with huge icons which makes them easy to control while driving. Overall, the MirrorLink technology makes connected driving easier and safer than all other connected technologies in the market.
Is CarmodeStub Safe?
CarmodeStub is a totally safe application and it is not a virus, malware, or bloatware.
Usually, when people see apps running in the background which they haven’t installed manually, their first feeling is that this app is malware or bloatware. Android devices especially Samsung do have a history of using pre-installed bloatware like KLMS Agent and RoseEUkor but that is not the case with CarmodeStub.
CarmodeStub is an important system application that is required to connect your smartphone to your car while driving so you can control your smartphone right from your car’s dashboard screen.
This app doesn’t cause any harm to your device and it uses minimum system resources so it won’t slow down your device and cause any lags.
How to Download CarmodeStub app?
The CarmodeStub app is a system application that you cannot find in Google Play Store. However, you can download this app from the APKMirror website by clicking on this link.

CarmodeStub is a system application so you cannot uninstall/disable this application in the traditional way you uninstall third-party apps. To uninstall/disable this app, you’ll have to use ADB or the System App Remover application.

Uninstall CarmodeStub app using ADB
ADB allows you to bring up a Unix shell so you can issue commands directly on the Android device. You can use it to install, uninstall, debug and disable apps. You’ll need a Windows PC to use ADB. This is my preferred method to uninstall system apps because it doesn’t require root access.
Here are the steps to uninstall the CarmodeStub app using ADB.

Step 3 – Go back to the main Settings menu and tap on Developer Options to open it.

Step 11 – Connect your Android device to the PC using a USB data cable.
Step 12 – Type the command adb shell pm uninstall –user 0 com.samsung.android.drivelink.stub and press Enter to run this command. Wait for a few seconds and you’ll notice the app has been uninstalled from your device.
